IS a definite plus

Sounds like this particular applicant has this experience, that isn't a fact.

Would/will be (?)

grumbleradded a comment 4 years ago

Why not more clear "candidates with work experience will have an advantage"?

•-<(||=ULY=||)>- •added a comment 4 years ago

More clear, perhaps, more natural, no. It sounds like an overstatement - too obvious. That's why it gets all of 6 hits on google: https://www.google.com/search?sxsrf=ALeKk03Uek9jSVYm1MegeD_NO4gha0M-Tw%3A1597241177481&source=hp&ei=WfczX6PmGcvYsAXI54bIDg&q=%22candidates+with+work+experience+will+have+an+advantage%22&oq=%22candidates+with+work+experience+will+have+an+advantage%22&gs_lcp=CgZwc3ktYWIQAzIFCCEQqwIyBQghEKsCMgUIIRCrAjoECCMQJ1CKC1i3ZmDyaGgBcAB4AIABhgGIAf0EkgEDMi40mAEAoAECoAEBqgEHZ3dzLXdpeg&sclient=psy-ab&ved=0ahUKEwjj9oCI65XrAhVLLKwKHcizAekQ4dUDCAg&uact=5

And it has nothing to do with "this applicant" - it's a general statement "having work experience will prove a definite advantage for anyone seeking employment here"

grumbleradded a comment 4 years ago

Yes, IMO, this is good/natural for the original advert, not for a reply to some particular application, where the Russian text sounds to me like a hint that it's likely to be unsuccessful because of the luck of experience

grumbleradded a comment 4 years ago

As l said above, to me it
"Sounds like this particular applicant has this experience", that is sort of opposite.
But again, I may be wrong.

•-<(||=ULY=||)>- •added a comment 4 years ago

Sorry, but I have no idea what you mean. Should I delete the translation?

Sorry, but I have no idea what you mean.

"work experience is a definite plus" - yes, this is very natural for an ADVERT or a job description

However, we translate a reply to some application.

"Предпочтение будет отдаваться кандидатам с опытом работы" - the ONLY reason I can imagine for saying this in a REPLY, can be that this particular applicant doesn't have this experience (= as you don't have the experience, your chances are slim).

IF I AM RIGHT, then your translation seems to mean the opposite (your experience is a definite plus).
However, my understanding can be wrong. That's why I suggested to translate closer to the original text instead of interpreting and thus, possibly, changing the original meaning.

Tatiana Gerasimenkoadded a comment 4 years ago

This sentence is from the response someone received after they applied for a job. No one (except for the people who wrote it) knows what they had in their mind.

•-<(||=ULY=||)>- •added a comment 4 years ago

I don’t see why they wouldn’t have written this to the applicant. If there are other people under consideration, there’s nothing wrong with letting the applicant know that the final decision will be highly influenced by work experience. That’s exactly what my translation says.
