Is there any reason to emphasize TOMORROW in this statement?

added a comment hace 5 años

I’ll learn my English tomorrow, mother.

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment hace 5 años

Very good, Евгений, only LEARN is a resultative verb, which sounds like they’ll learn the whole language in one day. It’s better to use STUDY.

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment hace 5 años

Russ, by putting tomorrow at the front, it sounds like the speaker is emphasizing it. As if someone asked them to do something tomorrow and they can’t, because TOMORROW... they’re doing something else.

Имеется ввиду задание для школы или курсов, как я понял.

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment hace 5 años

That’s STUDYING or even HOMEWORK.

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment hace 5 años

I’ll do my English homework tomorrow (?)

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment hace 5 años

Евгений, I like that you used MY in this. It’s very natural.

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment hace 5 años

I’m going to delete my translation because I see that GOING TO doesn’t work here - the speaker is kind of negotiating with their mother. It’s better to use WILL.

added a comment hace 5 años

Я смысл понял так: Мама я ЗАВТРА выучу задание по-английскому

Russ Sadded a comment hace 5 años

The original is ambiguous. It could be that she is asking him to study today but he say he would do it tomorrow. also, it could be that she says - tomorrow she will need his help but he responds with saying the tomorrow he will be busy (studying English), so no help. i don't know which one fits here until Nana clarifies.

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment hace 5 años

In that case, your translation is correct, but it should be “tomorrow I’ll BE STUDYING ENGLISH”

Russ Sadded a comment hace 5 años

I was thinking about WILL v.s. GOING TO.... for the 2nd example it should definitely be WILL. But for the 1st one it looks like GOING TO works ok, no?

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment hace 5 años

When you’re negotiating and there’s a possibility that your plans may not be firm (for example, if your mother puts her foot down and say “no! you’ll do it NOW!), then the more tentative WILL works best.

Also, in the first case, TOMORROW will definitely go to the end of the sentence.
