Я бы сказал fell off.
Peel - это обычно о чем-то тонком, например о краске.

Кстати, поролон - это foam, но никак не rubber. Врет Wiki, и не в первый раз. Русская статья - правильная - https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Поролон. А привязанная английская - может быть и правильная, но вовсе не о поролоне.

FELL OFF would be used to emphasize that it's on the ground. If it generally separated from the surface that held it, it CAME OFF or CAME LOOSE, which may mean that it completely separated, or that a section of it is still attached while the rest of it is sticking out.
