I don’t agree with the other translations.

Uly, "I’ve been working on this plan for four years now." - это разве не "работаю НАД этим планом"?

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 4 anos atrás

Yes, and when you’re trying to bring about a plan, you’re in essence working on it at least from an English perspective.

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 4 anos atrás

Depending on the context, it can mean both to work on developing and to work on bringing it to fruition.

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 4 anos atrás

It DEFINITELY doesn’t mean to “follow” a plan.

What’s my mistake? Are my translations incorrect?

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 4 anos atrás

30 minutes ago, I said the same thing: Yes, and when you’re trying to bring about a plan, you’re in essence working on it at least from an English perspective.

The fact is that EVERYTHING depends on context. “I’m working on this marriage” depending on the context, can mean “I’m trying to get this girl to marry me” or “I”m trying to organize this wedding” or “I’m trying to make my marriage work.” What’s the problem?

Only the second Uly's translation can be ambiguous. But the rest 2 are perfectly fine.

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 4 anos atrás

Ambiguous, in the sense that its correctness depends on the context. But if it’s so controversial, I’ll remove it. I wouldn’t want to confuse anyone.

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 4 anos atrás

Actually, I was asked to add it again.

Russ Sadded a comment 4 anos atrás

no one said you should remove it. why did you?

Russ Sadded a comment 4 anos atrás

ambiguous does not men wrong. it merely means (in this case) that your version could be interpreted in 2 different ways, that's it.

why not asleep at such a late hour? it's almost 1 am in Florida

I started watching YouTube videos in bed last night and didn’t get to sleep until 2am)))

It was obviously causing confusion, but at soon as I removed it, I was asked to add it again, so there it is)))

>ambiguous does not men wrong. it merely means (in this case) that your version could be interpreted in 2 different ways, that's it.

Ambiguous means that it can be misinterpreted, and therefor should be avoided. Unless, of course, the ambiguity is intentional. The original Russian sentence does not have this ambiguity, therefore ambiguous translation is incorrect.

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 4 anos atrás

ANYTHING can be misinterpreted. In the right context, my translation is correct, and therefore, not incorrect.
