grumbler, минус не мой, но ведь "today's special" имеет другой смысл. Это не "фирменное блюдо", это "блюдо дня".

Я бы перевел "сегодняшенее фирменное блюдо". Иначе не вижу ничего "special" - если это просто обычное блюдо.

IMHO, оба ваши перевода правильные, но слишком амбициозные для обыкновенного человека, не повара.

Grumbler, SPECIAL относится к цене блюда, а не к "специалитету" повора (так сказать). "Today's special is the hamburger" означает, что сегодня гамбургер просто более дешево чем обычно продается.

What I meant is that these dishes always have a special price. They may be something that isn't served everyday, or they made a lot of it, or whatever, but they're always priced to sell. I was more trying to show why "My special dish" doesn't work here, than trying to teach you about "specials" per se. Thanks for the link - it was interesting to read about it.
