When you don't ever need to be in a hurry.
It's often used in the reference of a rural lifestyle.
In that case its a quiet life. Thank you)))
Grumbler, REGULAR implies something else
>In that case its a quiet life. Thank you)))
👍
Curiously, they reckon it as the number 2 meaning, which surprises me.
Actually, even their example about Einstein makes me doubt their rendition of размеренная жизнь.
I think I trust your opinion more))
On second thought, I wouldn't insist Grumbler's version is wrong. I tried to explain my perception of the meaning which I had from the books I read. I'd never happened to give it much thought before.
An interesting question!
Deleted.
But Grumbler’s version wasn’t entirely correct even if that was his intended meaning. REGULAR doesn’t mean the same as AVERAGE when talking about life.

It seems to be
Здесь regular, похоже, означает "обычная" или т.п.
Grumbler, Tatiana’s saying that maybe your version wasn’t entirely incorrect. If the idea is a life without anything aside from the mundane, it should be an AVERAGE life. A REGULAR life is what you hope to have after your life has been turned upside down by a tragedy, for example.
It looks like Wikipedia is right.
It's just the спокойная и размеренная (exactly as in that example) that more often than not are used as an idiom, which makes you think they are a kind of synonyms.
По смыслу "размеренная" - это в первую очередь упорядоченная (все идет по заведенному порядку, предсказуемо) и в результате - спокойная.
Однако orderly life опять же означеае нечто другое - вокруг тебя порядок.
>A life without anything aside from the mundane
Exactly! As I said before, as I read how they described размеренная жизнь, I always got an impression that their life was quiet and even boring.
Then it’s QUIET and/or AVERAGE
Я веду здесь очень размеренный образ жизни: Свифт, Джонатан / Письма к Стелле
My life is very regular here: Swift, Jonathan / Journal to Stella
(Lingvo, Примеры из текстов)
"My life is very regular here: on Sunday morning I constantly visit lord keeper, and sup at lord treasurer's with the same set of company."
Here REGULAR means that his routine doesn’t change - it’s very predictable.
That's exactly what I said above - "упорядоченная (все идет по заведенному порядку, предсказуемо) "
Then you were right))
I was going by what Tatiana wrote about this being used in reference to a rural life, which isn’t necessarily a regular life. Regular just means that it’s the same thing over and over, no variety, mundane, etc. To me, a rural life is one that’s serene and pastoral.
OK, I'm adding it back then
