Although Grumbler provided the link to the original published text, I’m still in doubt, and the phrase with HOW seems strange to me as if translated from Russian by a Russian.

С моей точки зрения при переводе этого словосочетания важно понимать значение, в котором здесь употреблено слово «установка». Я вижу две возможности. (1) Это психологический термин, если упрощённо, означающий «предрасположенность реагировать/поступать, ну и, наверное, думать определённым образом, что обусловлено всем предшествуюшим опытом человека».
(2) Ожидания, а иногда и прямые требования, окружения.
Ангела, хотелось бы уточнения.

Вообще второй вариант, но хотелось бы услышать оба
