Thank you!

This is used in the present in a situation where someone is accused of having said something wrong or having said too much and in their defense, they remind the listener than they've hardly said two words/anything at all during the course of the conversation, dinner, meeting, etc. Is that what HolyMoly's translation means?

[Halfway through dinner in a restaurant]
Husband: [talking and talking... complaining... accusing]
Wife: [watching, blinking, sipping her wine, unemotional, silent]
Husband: ... and the front yard looks terrible. We have a perfectly good lawnmower it'd take you 20 minutes to mow the lawn.
Wife: I have a bad back.
Husband: We have money! You could hire someone to do it.
Wife: [calmly] If I brought any man to the house to cut the lawn, you'd accuse me of sleeping with him.
Husband: You see! Everything I say is wrong! I can't open my mouth without you becomeing hysterical!!
Wife: [calmly] I've hardly said anything/two words/a thing. (<-- she's only spoken twice during the whole dinner, while he hasn't shut his mouth for one moment.)

So HolyMoly’s translation would work in this conversation?

Pink Peonyadded a comment 3 года назад

Of course🙂

С подтекстом:
Да я вообще ничего (такого, особенного) не сказала / не говорила!
(мол, чего ты ко мне прицепился?!)

Thank you, darling 😘

Here you can also say “I’ve hardly opened my mouth.”

Yeah, same as «Да я едва рот раскрыл».
