Hi Nick, you’re talking about the meaning ofone word, but I’m putting that word in a context and showing you with the Ngram that in that context it doesn’t sound very natural. Something that is said to cause discomfort usually refers to physical discomfort and not to emotional anxiety or uneasiness “to everyone. around.”

The issue comes when you combine DISCOMFORT with the verb CAUSE - this immediately links it to PHYSICAL, BODILY discomfort and not to being made to feel uncomfortable. I think we’ve learned on here that dictionaries don’t always give the whole story. CONTEXT is the true teacher 😉
