It's not always a good idea to call a bottom a butt. It sounds a bit rude. )

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 10 лет назад

butt is ok, ass is rude. even children say butt

Aleh Laadded a comment 10 лет назад

So why did you put your ass, if it's rude? Also, among other things children say rude things, too.

Aleh Laadded a comment 10 лет назад

To Uly: there's a heck of a lot of difference between "попой " и "костлявой задницей"

Moderator Lingvo Liveadded a comment 10 лет назад

Aleh La - :-) I found in Cosmopolitan and similar resourses both "butt" and "buttocks". The latter sounds a bit more polite, but there was more of a "butt".

Aleh Laadded a comment 10 лет назад

Well, it doesn't prove me wrong, does it? Anyway, bottom, or buttocks, or butt still better reflect the expression "попа", than bony ass. So, let's have some fun...

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 10 лет назад

@Aleh: Relax, babe. By the time you have enough familiarity to give someone this imperative, you will probably be on "ass" terms with them anyway :) We throw this word around all the time and it's no big deal, to say nothing of "butt," which everyone uses.

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 10 лет назад

Furthermore, "bony butt" doesn't sound right for some reason. As for BUTTOCKS - really? That's a word doctors and nurses use. I agree - lighten up and have some fun :)

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 10 лет назад

Also, I wouldn't call ASS rude, perhaps a little vulgar, but popular :)

Aleh Laadded a comment 10 лет назад

An I would advise you to keep studying Russian. it looks like four years haven't done the trick yet. I understand, it takes time to learn difference between попа и жопа, but, put some effort and you'll end up being there, man. Or, in either of them. Good luck!

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 10 лет назад

Oh, I know the difference, it's just that in English, we tend to use ASS more. Hopefully if I PUT SOME EFFORT INTO IT, I'LL GET THERE. You're no Shakespeare yourself!

Aleh Laadded a comment 10 лет назад

No. And, I don't claim being an expert in English, either.Through my college years I met "native speakers" who failed Composition 1,2 and Public speaking classes. Imagine them give a piece of advice here!

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 10 лет назад

Well this native speaker is also a professional translator with 35 years experience. I don't understand your hostility - (1) at no time did I insult you, (2) I agree with your translation, and (3) I defer to you as a native Russian speaker. I simply offered my variant of the sentence. Why are you so angry?

Aleh La, послушайте, вам не кажется, что своим последним комментарием вы границы перешли?

Holy Molyadded a comment 10 лет назад

Теперь уже предпоследним.

Aleh Laadded a comment 10 лет назад

Oh, yes, you did. Just saying, Relax, babe.

Aleh Laadded a comment 10 лет назад

Do you agree with your translation?

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 10 лет назад

What's wrong with Relax, babe. It's like "take it easy" - it's nice. I agree with my translation, but if you prefer, I can remove it.

Aleh Laadded a comment 10 лет назад

In sounds sarcastic and it's not nice at all.

It's up to you whether to keep it or not. By the way, I still consider it "not exact" to say the least. But, if you remove your comments, I'll do the same with the worst of mine.

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 10 лет назад

Aleh, since the written word doesn't have intonations and stresses, it's hard to gauge what is sarcastic and what is jovial. I assure you I wasn't being sarcastic. "Relax, cupcake -or- darling" would have been sarcastic. I'm here to help, not to offend. I'll gladly remove my comments, whether you remove yours or not, because they're of no consequence to me - they express what you were feeling, so they're genuine :) You have an excellent grasp of English and I think we would do well to help each other instead of bickering, yes?

Aleh Laadded a comment 10 лет назад

Yes. ) You got the deal!

⁌ ULY ⁍added a comment 10 лет назад

Great! *It's a deal!
